failure to file returns penalties so as to acquire compliance certificate in kenya - The Kenya Revenue Authority has for a second time extended the deadline for filing tax returns until Sunday, July 5, 2015.

Commissioner-General John Njiraini, who had earlier announced the June 30 deadline extension to Friday, June 3, acknowledged the problems encountered while using the KRA iTax system which has so far seen 2 million users register.

The five-day extension in an opportunity for those who failed to comply to do so in order to avoid penalties.

Under Section 52B of the income Tax Act, every individual earning a taxable income is required by law to furnish KRA with the assessment annually.

In 2011, when President Uhuru Kenya was the finance minister, he sought to change the Act so as to reduce unnecessary filing.

However, KRA holds that the exercise prevents loss of revenue as some employers to not submit their employees' taxes to them.
