A.    OPENING DATES FOR 2012/2013 ACADEMIC YEAR

JKUAT wishes to inform all students that the opening dates for its various campuses for 2012/2013 academic year will be as indicated below:

I.    JUJA CAMPUS

New students will report on Monday May 7, 2012 for registration and orientation.

The 2012/2013 academic year for continuing students commences on Wednesday May 9, 2012.

II.    KAREN CAMPUS
All new and continuing students for Karen Campus are expected to report to the Campus on Monday May 7, 2012.

III.    NAIROBI CAMPUS
Students based at Nairobi Campus should report to the campus as follows:
New students         -    Monday, May 7, 2012
Continuing students    -    Wednesday May 9, 2012.

IV.    NAIROBI CBD CAMPUS
All new and continuing students for Nairobi CBD Campus are expected to report to the Campus on Monday May 21, 2012.

V.    KISII CAMPUS
All new and continuing students for Kisii Campus are expected to report to the Campus on Monday, May 7, 2012.

VI.    TAITA TAVETA CAMPUS
All new and continuing students for Taita Taveta Campus are expected to report to the Campus on Monday May 7, 2012.
   
VII.    NAKURU CBD CAMPUS
Students based at Nakuru CBD Campus should report to the campus as follows:

New students         -    Monday May 7, 2012
Continuing students    -    Monday, 14th May, 2012

VIII.    MOMBASA CBD CAMPUS
All new and continuing students for Mombasa CBD Campus are expected to report to the Campus on Monday, May 14, 2012.

IX.    KITALE AND KAKAMEGA CBD CAMPUSES
Students based at Kitale and Kakamega CBD Campuses should report to the campus as follows:

New students         -    Monday, May 7, 2012
Continuing students    -    Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Registration will start at 8.00 a.m. New students are expected to bring with them the following:

(i)    Original and copies of their certificates.
(ii)    Original and copies of National ID Card or birth certificates for those under 18 years of age.
(iii)    Original and copy of admission letter among other documents specified in the letter of offer. These requirements apply to all new students in all the campuses.

Admission letters will have been dispatched to all the new students by 25th April 2012.

B.    UNIVERSITY ACCOMMODATION FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS AT JKUAT JUJA CAMPUS

JKUAT wishes to inform all continuing Government sponsored students reporting to the university on Wednesday May 9, 2012 that room allocation at the University Halls of Residence will be on first come first served basis.

Further, the University wishes to inform the said students that at a meeting held on Friday March 16, 2012, the Accommodation and Catering Services Committee noted that the University is not in a position to offer accommodation to all Government sponsored students. Consequently, the university has liaised with private hostel owners with a view to having students who cannot be accommodated in the university to be accommodated in university approved private hostels.

During the meeting of the said committee, it was also decided that the University will subsidize rent to Government sponsored students accommodated in the privately owned hostels at the rate of 50% of the rent during 2012/2013 academic year and 25% for 2013/2014 academic year. Thereafter, the university will not offer subsidy during 2014/2015 academic year.

C.    REVISED ACCOMMODATION FEES FOR GOVERNMENT SPONSORED STUDENTS

It is important to note that, accommodation fees for Government sponsored students has been revised to Kshs.3,900/- per semester irrespective of whether one is accommodated in the university hostels or outside the University Halls of Residence.

D.    HOSTEL BOOKING PROCEDURE FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS

Please note the following:

All JKUAT Government sponsored students are supposed to go through the registration process on Wednesday May 9, 2012.

Registration has been decentralized to Faculties and Schools and therefore room allocation (based on first come first served) will be the last stage of the registration process.

E.    PAYMENT OF FEES AND UNIVERSITY FEE POLICY

The University recognizes that fee payment is critical to the university students and stakeholders. The University has therefore developed a Fee Payment Policy to facilitate efficient and effective fee collection mode and offer quality services to all.

Under this policy, stakeholders, students and their sponsors are supposed to pay fees in full before the beginning of every semester. In the event of inability to pay fully, the first installment should be paid before the start of the semester in which 50% of the tuition fees plus 100% of the applicable charges are payable.  Such students should clear the second installment by the 12th week of the semester. All students are advised to acquaint themselves with the policy.

All students are required to pay fees at the indicated banks below and bring with them the pay-in slips for receipting.

F.    LOAN/BURSARY ALLOCATION

It is expected that all new and continuing students wishing to apply for loans/bursary from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) will have done so before reporting to the University. Such applications should be processed and submitted to HELB.  You could check the status of your HELB application through its website www.helb.co.ke. 

G.    COMMENCEMENT OF LECTURES
Lectures and other scheduled academic activities will start at 8.00 a.m. on Thursday May 10, 2012.

In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you to the University for 2012/2013 academic year.
