The bachelor of business management (BBM) degree programme is one of the premier programmes of the School of Business and Economics, Moi University.  It seeks to develop competent managers for the current competitive global business environments. This programme was initially introduced in Moi University in the School of Social and Cultural Studies as a Bachelor of Art degree in Technology and Management studies (TMS) in 1989.  It was renamed Bachelor of Business Management degree in 1996.  Since then it has been reviewed after every cycle (4 years) to include the current issues affecting business. The major revisions in this curriculum include the introduction of two new areas of specialization and a review of the course descriptions.
The BBM programme has attracted a good number of students and over the last 19 years more than 2,000 grandaunts have gone through its curriculum. The comments from the industry about the grandaunts’ knowledge and skills have been very impressive.  The remarks, issues raised and ideas from the industry have also been factored in the revision of the curriculum.

5.    To address the dynamics and challenges of rapidly changing globalized market.

An applicant shall satisfy the entry requirements for BBM as stipulated by Moi University senate.  However the regular government sponsored students are admitted upon meeting the requirements stipulated by the Joint Admission Board, which is a mean grade of B plain but may vary from year to year. The current admission requirements are-
(a)    An applicant should have at least a mean grade of C+ (plus) and a C (plain) in Mathematics and English Language in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, or at least a D+ in Mathematics and a C (plain) in commerce, Business Studies, Accounting, or Economics OR,
(b)    At least two principles and one subsidiary pass in Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) plus at least pass in maths and English at level OR,
(c)    Be a holder of 2 year Diploma in Business Management from Moi University or Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) with at least a credit to be admitted in the second year of study OR,
(d)    Be a holder of a one year Diploma from other institutions recognised by Moi University senate (e.g. KIM, ABE, CIM and CIPS) to be admitted in the first year of study.
(e)    Be a Holder of CPA/CPS (KASNEB) to be admitted to either second or third year of study OR,
(f)    Be of mature age with at least five years work experience in a reputable commercial/administrative organisation and a Holder of CPA/CPS (K) or HND (KNEC) to be admitted in second or third year of study.

The duration of the programme is normally four academic years of study (8 semesters).  However, those who join the programme as mature entry students in the second or third year of study will take a shorter duration.

The common rules and regulations governing undergraduate assessment/examinations and supplementary/special examinations of Moi University shall apply.

This curriculum leading to the award of the Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) degree offers the following areas of specializations:-

The degree programme covers university-wide courses, division common courses, the areas of specialisation courses and electives. To qualify for graduation a student will be required to pass a minimum of 56 courses. A student is required to register for at least 14 units in each academic year including all courses designated as University-wide courses, the degree common courses, areas of specialisation and elective courses.

All the courses carry 3 units (hours) per week hence a total of 168 units required for graduation.

All the BBM students shall be required to undergo an industrial attachment at the end of the third year of study and then write and submit a report for examination in the first semester of the 4th year of study. The purpose of the industrial attachment is to allow the students to understand the industry practices.
Students will be attached for three months to different organisations. They will be required to fully participate in the routine tasks and assignment of the organisation. The purpose is to enhance their understanding in the general areas of management such as; principles, organisational structure and design, organisational policies and work ethics, team building, communication and organisational performance. At the end, the students are required to write a report on their experiences during the attachment linking the theory and practice. The report will be examined.

The students are required to take the University-wide courses. These are the courses, which are common to degrees programmes in the school and also tie the grandaunts to the al-ma-Marta (Alumni) of the university. They are as listed below:
